Dr. Fong's Story: Finding Naturopathic Medicine

Growing up with chronic eczema, a painful skin disease, Dr. Fong always dreamed of one day becoming a doctor and discovering a "cure" for her ailment. After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Molecular Cell Biology and a minor in Dance, Dr. Fong worked first as a molecular cell biologist, then as a surgical assistant with an adjunct Stanford professor, dermatologist, and Mohs Surgeon, in preparation for conventional medical school. Dr. Fong found that she thoroughly enjoyed general dermatology and dermatologic surgery, but yearned for deeper answers for treating her eczema - more than the paradigm of conventional medicine could offer.

It was then that Dr. Fong turned to naturopathic medicine and found herself beginning to conquer the disease for the first time in her life. She learned about her food sensitivities, nutritional deficiencies, and how to detox to help her body rid itself of toxins more efficiently. Inspired and ecstatic about her health, Dr. Fong left the path toward conventional medicine and entered the world of holistic care.  She founded MommyShape, a perinatal wellness company, became a birth doula, and started her naturopathic journey.

In naturopathic medical school, Dr. Fong learned even more about the processes that were contributing to her eczema. These processes went beyond the physical function of her body and included learning about the mind-body connection and homeopathy. Using homeopathy and other mind-body techniques, Dr. Fong was able to peel the layers away, allowing her body to self-heal and achieve complete health.

Dr. Fong's journey to health was a multi-step process of uncovering the layers that were causing her bodily dysfunction. Dr. Fong accomplished her dream of discovering a "cure" for her eczema, and now, is committed to finding the "cure" for others who are suffering with chronic disease.
