Digestive System Chart 1.jpg

What does the colon do?

  • It occupies approximately 5 feet of space within the body, with lots of grooves and turns

  • It absorbs water, vitamins, and electrolytes

  • It accepts and stores food remains that were not digested in the small intestine

  • The colon, along with the skin, kidneys, and lungs, is a major organ of elimination of toxins/ waste

What happens when the colon isn't functioning properly?

  • Daily toxins we are exposed to from air, water, and food accumulate faster than can be eliminated, which puts us at risk for health issues.

  • Chronic constipation during which the colon becomes congested with fecal matter, toxic waste, mucus, and/or gas.

  • The colon becomes a breeding ground for bad bacteria and toxins.

  • Malabsorption of nutrients

  • Auto-intoxication, in which toxins can be reabsorbed into the bloodstream where they may be carried to other tissues & organs of the body, thereby compromising our health, & possibly preventing our other bodily systems from functioning at their optimal capacity, and if gone untreated, may ultimately lead to disease, and in some many cases cancer.

  • Auto-intoxication may present with the following symptoms:  bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, IBS, leaky gut syndrome, colitis, fatigue, depression, poor memory, a weakened immune system, skin problems, lower back pain, excess weight, halitosis, coated tongue, body odor, headaches, and/ or menstrual problems.
